Sergei Dankvert announced a significant increase in the production of domestic vaccines for animals

The head of Rosselkhoznadzor, Sergei Dankvert, called the increase in the production of vaccines for animals an investment in the veterinary and epizootic welfare of the country in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

“When the sanctions began, we immediately said that we needed to move in the direction of increasing our production (of vaccines — Agroexpert). Increasing production is an investment in veterinary medicine. Yes, the year 2022 just gave us, to put it mildly, such a boost… They motivated us very well when Western companies that had previously supplied vaccines to the Russian market — American, Danish, German — simply stopped supplying,” said Sergei Dankvert.

The head of the service noted that Rosselkhoznadzor institutes have reconstructed production and began to increase the production of veterinary vaccines. Thus, Federal Centre for Animal Health (FGBI «ARRIAH»), subordinate to the service, developed 13 new vaccines for farm animals and pets in 2023. From 2021 to 2023, the Institute increased its production of veterinary vaccines by 2.7 times. By the end of 2024, vaccine production is expected to increase 5 times compared to 2021.

In general, Russian manufacturers are increasing the production of veterinary immunobiological drugs. At the end of 2023, domestic enterprises produced 19.3 billion doses of veterinary vaccines, which is 3 billion doses more than in 2022.

“If we compare 2021 and 2023, there was an increase in vaccine production in Russia by 35%, or in absolute terms by 5 billion doses. The departure of some companies from the Russian market served as an incentive to increase their own production,” previously reported Vladimir Borovoy, Deputy Head of the Department of Immunobiological Medicines of the All-Russian State Center for Quality and Standardization of Medicines for Animals and Feed (FGBU “VGNKI” of Rosselkhoznadzor).

In addition to the FGBI «ARRIAH», the top three Russian vaccine manufacturers include NPP Avivak. The company produces drugs in the field of poultry farming. Over the past 2 years, Avivak has increased its figures by 12%. According to the forecast, by the end of 2024 this enterprise will increase its production volume by 31% compared to 2021.

Also among the largest producers of veterinary vaccines is Shchelkovo Biocombinat. It is expected that by the end of this year the plant will increase vaccine production volumes 10 times compared to 2021.
