Oksana Lut: Federal State of Emergency Can Be Introduced by the End of the Week

The federal state of emergency can be introduced in Russia by the end of the week, Interfax reports citing Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut.

“The state of emergency is expected to be introduced by the end of the week. A request to the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief has already been submitted. Accordingly, a commission is expected. We really hope that this issue will be resolved by the end of the week,” the agency quotes the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to Oksana Lut, the Ministry of Agriculture will continue to work with insurance companies to ensure that all agricultural producers receive payments.

The early May frosts have affected almost all agricultural crops. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, May frosts have caused damage to crops in 23 regions. Previously, the head of the department stated that due to frost, about 900 thousand hectares would be replanted.
