Importers Will Be Punished for Goods without Labeling

In Russia, criminal liability can be introduced for the import of unlabeled products for sale. The draft federal law on amendments to Article 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was developed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The document is posted on the Federal Portal of Draft Regulatory Legal Acts.

It is proposed to establish liability for the import of goods, including food, for the purpose of marketing, without labeling and/or with counterfeit labeling. That is, if the document is adopted, such actions will fall under Article 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The document is currently at the stage of public discussion.

Today, in accordance with this article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, for the acquisition, storage, transportation for marketing purposes or sale of food products without labeling, a fine of up to 700 thousand rubles or imprisonment for up to 3 years is provided.
