Ministry of Agriculture Urges Meat Companies to Control Selling Prices

During a recent meeting, Maxim Titov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, urged key meat producers and representatives of industry unions to closely monitor meat costs and prevent any sharp price increases, the Ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry is closely monitoring the pricing situation on the food market: a modest seasonal rise in meat prices was particularly noted at a recent meeting. Over the past month, manufacturer prices have increased by 0.5-3%, varying by product type – a trend that is commonly observed during the warmer months, the statement notes. Industry unions are forecasting a typical downturn in prices in the upcoming period.

“Maxim Titov reminded the meeting participants to closely monitor meat prices and to prevent abrupt hikes. He stressed the importance of considering retail chain policies to ensure these products remain affordable for consumers during periods of heightened seasonable demand,” the statement says. The business sector has affirmed its commitment to maintaining market stability for meat, which is a food of significant social importance. The Ministry highlighted favorable trends in food-animal production this year. From January to April, the volume of livestock and poultry for slaughter increased by 4% compared to the same period last year, totaling nearly 4.5 million tons. Specifically, cattle production rose by 9.4% to 378,200 tons, and pig production increased by 8% to 1.9 million tons.
