Rosselkhoznadzor Reports Over 10,000 Tons of Russian Pork Successfully Exported to China

“According to Rosselkhoznadzor, data from June 24, 2024, indicates that more than 10,000 tons of pig products have been exported to China. This volume includes 6,800 tons of pork and approximately 3,200 tons of pork offal,” the service stated.

It took over 7 years for the Rosselkhoznadzor to finally establish the potential for Russian pork to enter the Chinese market. The multi-stage process involved negotiations, visits by Chinese representatives to Russia to evaluate the Russian pig products safety control system, and providing comprehensive information requested by the General Administration of Customs (GAC).

As a result, in September 2023, China lifted sanitary restrictions on African swine fever (ASF) that had been in place for Russia since 2008. Currently, three Russian pork producers have received authorization to export their products to China. This permission took effect on February 28, 2024.

“The opening of the Chinese market to Russian pork exports marks a significant milestone in the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries,” the service emphasized.
