Ekaterina Smirnova, leading specialist of the chemical-toxicological department of the Federal State-Financed Institution “Federal Centre For Animal Health” (FGBI “ARRIAH”) told how a consumer can independently check at home whether butter is real or fake.
According to the expert, in order to save money, unscrupulous manufacturers add vegetable fats when making butter. And such a product is already counterfeit.
Ekaterina Smirnova said that first you can cut off a piece of butter: if the product is natural, it can easily be separated from the knife. Next, the cut piece can be placed in hot water: if the oil dissolves completely, milk fat is released to the top, which means the oil is natural; if it does not dissolve, it is counterfeit.
However, laboratory tests will provide accurate data on the quality of dairy products, the expert notes.
Ekaterina Smirnova also advises carefully studying the composition on the packaging of butter, it should be simple, and pay attention to the price. Natural oil cannot be cheap, the specialist noted on the Volga TV channel.
