Disinfection of organic products using vacuum eliminates the need to use pesticides
The elimination of pests by exposure to vacuum is carried out without the use of pesticides, which is important for producers of organic products. Today, the Rosselkhoznadzor Federal State Enterprise “Republican Fumigation Group” (RFG) is the only enterprise in Russia that uses a vacuum installation for work on the disinfection of goods.
“The main advantage of this disinfection method is that it allows to preserve organic products with the “Organic” status without the use of pesticides,” RFG commented to Agroexpert.
Let us remind you that according to Law No. 280-FZ, the use of pesticides and agrochemicals is prohibited in the circulation of organic products.
“However, organic products grown using pesticide-free technology are more dangerous in phytosanitary terms,” experts from RFG note.
Now, according to the law, quarantine phytosanitary disinfection is necessary both when importing regulated products into Russia and when exporting them from our country.
In addition, if fumigation (disinfection process) of goods sent for export is not carried out, this greatly increases the risk of detecting pests of quarantine status for importing countries in the supplied consignments. “What could entail the introduction of restrictions on the export from Russia of certain types of both organic and conventional products,” warn RFG specialists.
Compliance with quarantine phytosanitary requirements of importers is possible without the use of chemical fumigation. RFG offers manufacturers and exporters of organic products a safe method of disinfection by exposure to vacuum,” the organization notes.
RFG received a license for this type of activity in October 2020. “Today, Republican Fumigation Group is the only enterprise in the Russian Federation that uses a vacuum installation when carrying out work on disinfecting products,” the organization emphasizes.
Currently, vacuum disinfection can be used when processing organic products for export in order to ensure that they comply with the phytosanitary requirements of importing countries.
According to Roskachestvo, 420 certificates for the production of organic products had been issued in Russia by the beginning of March this year. Organic certificates have been issued to more than 180 producers in 50 regions of the country. Almost the entire line of domestic agricultural products is certified.
