Dmitry Patrushev: this year’s harvest will ensure the country’s food security, despite the weather conditions

In 2024, the Russian agro-industrial complex will ensure compliance with the parameters of the Food Security Doctrine in crop production, livestock farming and the fisheries complex, Dmitry Patrushev said at a plenary meeting of the State Duma.

“In 2024, despite difficult weather conditions, we can get the harvest we need to meet food security parameters. The same applies to livestock products, processing, as well as the fishery complex,” emphasized Dmitry Patrushev, candidate for the post of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

The May cold waves in Russia will affect almost all agricultural crops, so a revision of gross harvest forecasts is inevitable, according to industry representatives interviewed by Agroexpert.

Regional agricultural authorities have begun to determine the extent of damage caused to agricultural crops by return frosts, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture told Agroexpert last week. The lost crops will be replanted; all the necessary resources are available for this, the department assured.

The Ministry of Agriculture has not yet announced a forecast for the gross wheat harvest in 2024. In total, according to the ministry, 132 million tons of grain can be harvested. In 2023, the gross grain harvest in the Russian Federation amounted to 144.925 million tons (8.1% less than in 2022), of which 92.826 million tons of wheat (minus 10.9%).
