According to Rosstat, 53.1 million tons of sugar beets were harvested in 2023, which is 8.6% higher than the previous year. The volume of processed beets in January–March amounted to 5.95 million tons, 61% more than in the first quarter of 2023, which led to an increase in sugar production volumes, according to Andrey Bodin, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Sugar Producers of Russia.

Meanwhile, temporary restrictions were introduced on the export of cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose last week in the Russian Federation. The ban will be in effect until August 31, 2024.
