The Republican Fumigation Group processed almost 69 thousand cubic meters of wood for export to Iran

Within the framework of the Memorandum between Rosselkhoznadzor and the Plant Protection Organization of Iran on cooperation in the field of wood export, the Republican Fumigation Group, subordinate to the service, fulfills the requirements of the Iranian side for wood processing.

Thus, since the beginning of 2024, 68.9 thousand cubic meters of wood intended for export to Iran have been processed in the territory of the “RFG” Astrakhan port. In 2023, the organization’s specialists processed more than 313 thousand cubic meters of wood. The region exported mainly softwood and hardwood lumber.

In accordance with the requirements of the Memorandum, all shipments of wood exported from Russia to Iran are required to be disinfected before shipment. Treatment occurs in several ways: by fumigation with methyl bromide (methyl bromide), by using kiln dry or heat treatment.

Since 2014, the Republican Fumigation Squad has been providing thermal treatment services for lumber at the Astrakhan port.

Disinfection of lumber is carried out in drying chambers at the Astrakhan port using heat treatment. The process itself involves heat treating the wood with hot air at temperatures above 70°C for at least four hours. This allows to effectively destroy most wood pests. The disinfection time is counted from the moment the temperature inside the wood core reaches 70°C. To control the temperature, at least three sensors are installed in the chamber. After completion of the heat treatment process, readings are taken from the sensors for the entire drying period. Based on the results of the heat treatment, a quarantine phytosanitary disinfection certificate is issued.
